What does a United Methodist Believe?

Our two most basic sets of doctrine are called the Articles of Religion and the Confession of Faith. You can find them here:
The Articles of Religion of the Methodist Church | UMC.org
Confession of Faith of The Evangelical United Brethren Church | UMC.org

Additionally, we count some of John Wesley's documents (our denominational founder) as our doctrinal standards. These documents help us to understand our Wesleyan theology, our church tradition, and our daily practice of worship and service. These documents include the Standard Sermons of John Wesley, Wesley's Explanatory Notes of the New Testament, and the General Rules of Methodists, stated below:

  1. Do No Harm
  2. Do Good
  3. Attend Upon the Ordinances of God.
